World Sleep Day

Friday, March 13, 2026

days to go

World Sleep Day, held on the Friday before the Spring Equinox, raises awareness of the importance of sleep for health and well-being. The day highlights the impact of sleep disorders on health and advocates for better sleep habits and sleep disorder treatment.

History

World Sleep Day was established in 2008 by the World Sleep Society to address the global epidemic of sleep deprivation and sleep disorders. Each year features a different theme focusing on aspects of sleep health, such as 'Sleep is Essential for Health' or 'Better Sleep, Better Life.'

How It's Celebrated

Sleep health professionals and organizations host educational events about sleep hygiene. People are encouraged to evaluate their sleep habits, learn about sleep disorders, and commit to better sleep practices. Many participate in awareness campaigns about the health consequences of poor sleep.
