Sabah Governor's Birthday
Monday, March 30, 2026
Sabah celebrates the Governor’s Birthday with a public holiday on 30 March each year. Prior to 2025, the holiday was observed in October. The Governor is known as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah in Malay and is appointed to that position by the King of Malaysia. In 2027, Sabah Governor’s Birthday falls on Tuesday 30 March. The holiday will be on Thursday 30 March in 2028. The current Governor of Sabah is Musa Aman, who began his first term in 2025. Governors get four-year terms, but there are no term limits. Many powers of appointment and the power to approve or disapprove bills passed by the Sabah parliament are invested in the Governor of Sabah. As the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, he serves as the ceremonial head of state, appointed by Malaysia’s King. While his role is largely symbolic, he upholds constitutional duties and represents unity and continuity in Sabah’s governance.
