Nuzul Al-Quran Holiday

Nuzul Al-Quran is a Muslim holiday during the holy month of Ramadan, on which is celebrated at the beginning of the revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad. In 2027, Nuzul Al-Quran falls on Wednesday 24 February. The holiday will be on Sunday 13 February in 2028. The entire month of Ramadan is an occasion for month-long fasting, prayer, mosque attendance, and reading of Quranic Suras (chapters) and Ayat (verses). Muslims do not claim to know the exact day on which Muhammad first began receiving revelations from Allah through the angel Jibrail, but many Sunni Muslims observe Nuzul Al-Quran on the 27th of Ramadan. However, in Malaysia, it is kept on the 17th of Ramadan. Nuzul Al-Quran is only a public holiday in areas of Malaysia with large Muslim populations, which includes most states but excludes east Malaysia and a few areas in west Malaysia as well. The Prophet Muhammad is said to have been visited by the angel Jibrail while meditating in a small cave on Mount Hira’, just outside of Mecca. He isolated himself in the cave to escape from the evil doings of the people. He is said to have been appointed the “last prophet of Allah” and to have received daily revelations for 23 years until his death. Many Muslims and western tourists visit the very cave where these events are believed to have taken place over 1,400 years ago. A narrow, stone stairway leads up a short hill, and inside a small cavity at the top, you can see the very place Muhammad sat. Later, Muhammad would dictate his revelations, and scribes would record them. After his death, scribes assembled all of these writings, and the Caliph Uthman decided which of various versions of the transcripts would be considered accurate. The first five Suras of the Quran, which Nuzul Al-Quran has reference to, lay the groundwork for the rest of the book. This is especially so of the first Sura, which explicitly goes over the Quran’s basic principles in an abbreviated form.
