National K9 Veterans Day

Friday, March 13, 2026

days to go

Veterans Day on November 11 honors all who have served in the U.S. military, in war or peace. It is distinct from Memorial Day, which specifically remembers the fallen.

History

Originally Armistice Day (1919/1938) marking the 1918 end of WWI. Renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to be inclusive of all veterans. Observed with ceremonies at Arlington, local parades, and discounts/services for veterans at many businesses.

How It's Celebrated

Attend or watch ceremonies, visit memorials, personally thank veterans you know, volunteer with veteran organizations, display the flag, learn veterans' stories, and support policies that care for those who served. Many restaurants and stores offer free meals or discounts.
