Labor and Agricultural Day
Friday, May 1, 2026
Every 1 May is Labour and Agricultural Day in Haiti, while much of the rest of the world celebrates “Labour Day”. And that makes sense in Haiti, a country with a largely agriculturally based economy and with a large portion of the work force working on small, family owned farms. In 2027, Labor and Agricultural Day falls on Saturday 1 May. The holiday will be on Monday 1 May in 2028. The biggest single event for Haitian Labour and Agricultural Day each year is an agricultural-industrial fair held in the capital city of Port-au-Prince. It takes place on public university grounds and gives business owners from numerous industries a chance to showcase their products and services. There are also colourful street parades, public feasts in all of Haiti’s 10 departments, and a host of other festivals and cultural activities that take place all over Haiti And, in fact, Haitians living abroad often help put on Carnival-style, events in major US cities and elsewhere in the world.
