King'€™s Mother'€™s Birthday

Thursday, June 18, 2026

days to go

Mother's Day, on the second Sunday in May in the U.S., honors mothers and maternal figures with gifts, cards, flowers, meals, and quality time. It is one of the busiest days for restaurants and florists.

History

Created by Anna Jarvis in the early 1900s to honor her mother and all mothers. It became a U.S. national holiday in 1914. Jarvis later fought against its commercialization. Many countries have analogous days on different dates rooted in local history or religion.

How It's Celebrated

Spend the day with your mom or mother figures, give flowers (carnations are traditional), write a meaningful card or letter, take her out or cook a special meal, help with chores, or give an experience gift. Many also honor mothers who have passed or support maternal health causes.
