International Women's Day *
Sunday, March 8, 2026
International Women’s Day in China is held every 8 March to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is also a day used to highlight ongoing gender inequality and to call for further change. In 2027, International Women’s Day falls on Monday 8 March. The holiday will be on Wednesday 8 March in 2028. Note: International Women’s Day is observed for half day by women only. Although China celebrates International Women’s Day on 8 March, they celebrate it in a way very unique from other countries. The day is more like a combination of Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day than anything else. Most Chinese men buy gifts and cards for their wife, their mother, and even for their daughters. Working women get a half-day off work. Women also often attend special dinners or events, and media coverage of the day is often extensive.
