International Women's Day

International Women’s Day in Nepal is held every 8 March to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is also a day used to highlight ongoing gender inequality and to call for further change. In 2027, International Women’s Day falls on Monday 8 March. The holiday will be on Wednesday 8 March in 2028. Sadly, the nation of Nepal has huge problems in regard to fair treatment of women that still need to be addressed and changed. For example, around half of women in Nepal experience domestic violence at some point in life, they normally do all of the household work while men do little to none of it, and they normally make 50 to 60 percent less at work even when equally productive and experienced. Illiteracy is also higher among women in Nepal, and educational and leadership opportunities can be quite restricted. All across the land, on 8 March, Nepalese women take the opportunity to protest at various rallies and special women’s events. It is a time to press the government for change and to make their voices heard.
