Dri-Jerbal Day
Friday, September 4, 2026
The people of the Marshall Islands celebrate Dri-Jerbal Day on the first Friday of every September. This holiday is also known as Workers Day or simply as Labour Day. In 2026, Dri-Jerbal Day falls on Friday 4 September. The holiday will be on Friday 3 September in 2027. The term “dri-jerbal” refers to the “common people” of Marshall Islands’ society who traditionally make up about one third of the population. Dri-Jerbal Day celebrates the backbone of the community structure and economy of Marshall Islands, the common worker. It gives labourers a much needed day off and a chance to attend festive events and family get-togethers. Banks and government offices shut down every year on Dri-Jerbal Day, but most private businesses remain open. However, a lot of people will get the day off work as well and may spend the day out and about or just relaxing at home.
